Life can be very challenging when dealing with a thyroid or autoimmune thyroid condition. Although it’s not always easy to focus on the positive things in your life, most of us do have things to be grateful for. When I was first diagnosed with Graves’ Disease I admittedly didn’t take this advice frequently, as initially I focused more on the negative factors than the positive things in my life. But after awhile I realized that I needed to be grateful for the positive factors.
For example, while having an autoimmune thyroid condition truly stinks, there are other conditions which are much worse than either Graves’ Disease or Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. And so while I had a negative attitude when I was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease, I eventually became grateful for not having a health condition that was even worse, and once I began seeing the results of following a natural treatment protocol I of course was very grateful for this. I was also grateful for having a supportive wife, and I’m still very grateful for this. I’m extremely grateful for having two lovely daughters. Even though I’m not as brave as I used to be when going on roller coasters, I’m grateful that I have a “roller coaster buddy” in my older daughter.
I’m of course very grateful for my wonderful patients, as well as those who aren’t my patients but take the time to read my articles and blog posts, attend my webinars, etc. Thank you so much for your support, as I truly am grateful for it, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. And please make sure that you take a few minutes to reflect on what you’re grateful for.

Everyones for positivity , but you take away the “Respect the AI Disease” deserves with a Paragraph like it could be worse, for some it is worse.

I currently have the run of the mill flu . virus. All hell broke loose at work with the lights of Christmas festivities. The mucus flared , I sounded wheezy, and whoop bang, it went ot my chest. Roaring steel wool aggravating every smooth muscle and blood vessel i the system.. ! The thyroid perfectly okay.. but boy do I need a holiday.

You are so right. We always have things to be grateful for. At the meditation group I attend we have a favourite meditation where we envisage a lotus flower with gratitude written in the middle of it. We then look at a petal and see what is there that we are grateful for (loved ones, beauty, the scent of a rose, the evening sky, and so on). After looking at each petal we return to the word gratitude and then look at another petal and see what we find there. It is usually a very joyous experience.

Hi Dr Eric. Thank you for this article. It has most certainly brought home the fact that we do have much to be grateful for. At least up till now, after living with Hashimoto for more than 12 years, no one has told me I have only 6 months to live, as has happened to two of my friends diagnosed with terminal cancer. Oh woe is me, some days I feel so icky I just want to crawl back into bed and stay there, however, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the clear bright blue sky is calling me to come out into the garden and see the spring flowers. Although I feel tired and icky, I am not bed ridden and tied to miles of tubes, I am able to walk outside and enjoy the warm sun. How much do I have to be grateful for. Thank you for all your articles, thank you for your support. We do not always communicate directly but just seeing your mails, reading your articles makes me realise I am not alone. Thank you and keep up your wonderful work.

Great timing needed this today, sitting here crying and feeling sorry for myself after checking the scales. So disappointed

This is so true. There is so much to be grateful for, besides which a toxic thyroid condition finds it hard to exist in a person with a happy and grateful mind! I should know.

Dr. Eric,
I am truly blessed that you take the time to write your blogs. They have pointed me in the right direction for natural healing from Hashimotos with bad nodules. I shrank them using Iodine, selenium, turmeric, and going Gluten Free to heal my gut so I can absorb the nutrients my body needs. I got my energy back, started walking, and dropped 60 pounds. You taught me how to take ownership. I’m off ALL prescription meds. At 54 years old, I’m healthier than I was 20 years ago. It wasn’t easy, but I had strong family support. Please keep up the good work that you do. Healing will always be better than symptom control. 🙂
